Mapito Tented Camp
Welcome to Mapito Tented Camp, where the essence of the African wilderness is at your doorstep. Nestled near the bustling Serengeti National Park, Mapito offers an authentic safari experience that harks back to the days of colonial explorers, yet infused with modern comforts. The name “Mapito,” meaning “track of animals” in Swahili, perfectly encapsulates the camp’s ethos, as it is situated where wildlife trails are abundant, thus avoided by local inhabitants due to the rich fauna.
Here, the vast plains of the Serengeti stretch out before you, providing a canvas where the annual wildebeest and zebra migration paints one of nature’s greatest spectacles from July to October. The camp’s design reflects a blend of colonial charm and contemporary luxury, offering guests a serene escape into nature without compromising on comfort. Each day at Mapito is an adventure, whether you’re tracking the migration, observing the daily life of the Serengeti’s residents, or simply enjoying the tranquility of the African bush from your private veranda.
Mapito Tented Camp is not just a place to stay; it’s where you become part of the Serengeti’s narrative, with every sound, sight, and scent contributing to a story of wilderness and wonder.
Location:
Mapito Tented Camp is strategically located just 2 kilometers south of Robanda village in the Ikoma area, on the borders of the Serengeti National Park. This location places it at the heart of the Serengeti ecosystem, offering direct access to some of the most vibrant wildlife habitats in Tanzania. Being close to the Grumeti region, guests are ideally positioned to experience both the dense populations of resident wildlife and the awe-inspiring migration routes.
The camp’s proximity to the park’s boundaries ensures that you’re never far from the action, whether it’s the thundering hooves of the migration or the stealthy movements of predators. This area, known for its ecological richness, is also home to a variety of bird species, making it a paradise for ornithologists. The landscape here shifts from open savannah to more wooded areas, providing a diverse backdrop for your safari adventures.
